Loslegen

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about joining, your account, ads, privacy, and the web player.

Getting Started
How do I join a game that's already running?+
The organizer shares an invite link (it carries the game ID, and optionally a specific team ID directly) or shows a QR code generated from the admin portal. Opening the link without the app installed takes you to join_team.html in your browser, where you can join right in the web player — an "Open in App" button switches over automatically if the app is installed.
Do I need my own account to join?+
Yes. Both the app and the web player require signing in with email/password or a Google account before you can join a team — that's needed so your progress is tied to your account and stays in sync with the rest of your team.
How many devices does a team need?+
At least one, though it's still nice to have one per person so everyone can follow along live. Because everything is kept in sync through Firestore, every team member sees the same hand of cards, the same credit balance, and the same map in real time, no matter how many devices are signed in.
How secure are team passwords, really?+
Team passwords are a convenience feature, not a real security mechanism: they stop outsiders from accidentally joining the wrong team, but they're compared locally on the device and are technically visible to every player in the same game. That's perfectly fine for a friendly game among people who already know each other — don't use them for anything you actually need to keep secret.
Cards, Proofs, and Fairness
Do I have to upload proof for every challenge?+
In most games, yes — the organizer can configure this when creating the game (proofs required vs. optional). By default, every redeemed card needs up to 6 photos or one video of at most 60 seconds, which are shared automatically in chat.
What happens if a proof looks questionable?+
Every proof can be upvoted, downvoted, and commented on by any player in the Proofs tab — it's designed as a social fair-play signal so questionable proofs can be discussed openly. There's no automatic reversal of a claim based on downvotes; disputed cases get sorted out directly between teams.
Can I create my own challenge cards and decks?+
Yes. The app's Card & Deck Manager lets you design your own cards with an image, title, and rule text, group them into reusable decks, and optionally share them with other users. A deck you built yourself can be selected instead of the standard deck when creating a new game.

Kosten, Werbung und Konto
Kostet Claim Of Zones etwas?+
Web Player, Sprachen & Standort
In welchen Sprachen ist Claim Of Zones verfügbar?+
Ja.

Cost, Ads, and Your Account
Does Claim Of Zones cost anything?+
No, the game is completely free for every player, and creating a game costs nothing either. The organizer can optionally pay CHF 5 per game to remove banner ads for everyone — it's never required.
Where exactly do ads show up, and how do I remove them?+
Only as a banner inside a running game — never on the landing page, the dashboard, or the account tools. The organizer buys the ad-free upgrade directly in the app's game settings; ads then disappear for every team immediately, even mid-game.
Can I delete my account and all my data?+
Yes, any time, by yourself — from the account page in your browser or the settings in the app. This deletes games you created, removes your team and player memberships, anonymizes your chat messages and comments, and finally deletes your Firebase account itself.
How long is my game data kept?+
A game technically stays alive for up to a year before it's automatically cleaned up. 30 days before expiry, the organizer gets a reminder with the option to extend it; without an extension, all game data — including photos and videos — is permanently deleted once it expires.
Web Player, Languages & Location
What can I do in the web player that the app can't, and vice versa?+
The web player covers essentially all of actual gameplay: shop, hand of cards, map, chat, proofs, and scores, right in the browser with no install. Setting up a new game with the full configuration (including the ad-free upgrade) still requires the Android app, since that purchase goes through Google Play; the browser-based Game Master dashboard can now also create a simple, ad-supported game directly and manage games you already run.
Can I try the game without signing in?+
Yes, the app has a demo mode with no account and no internet connection required, where you can explore the card mechanics, deck, and interface at your own pace. Playing a real game with other people afterward requires signing in, since zones, chat, and progress are all synced through the cloud.
What languages is Claim Of Zones available in?+
The Android app is available in German, English, and French; the web player and this website currently support German and English. You can change the language in the app's settings, or on the web using the DE/EN switch in the top navigation.
Does my location (GPS) have to stay on the whole time?+
That depends on the organizer's settings. If GPS enforcement is turned on, your device has to actually be located inside a zone to claim it; if it's off, the photo/video proof is enough on its own, and you can play a looser version without continuous location sharing.
Does Claim Of Zones work outside Switzerland?+
Yes. The built-in zone map is based on the Swiss Libero fare zones, but organizers can draw a completely custom map for any city or region in the world using the app's map editor — the underlying mechanics (zones, cards, credits) stay exactly the same.
Can I switch teams mid-game?+
Yes, using "Change Team" in the app or the web player, as long as the target team isn't locked or you were already a member of it before. Your previous team's progress (zones, credits, hand of cards) stays with that team — switching starts fresh with the new team, not with your old resources.
What happens if the game needs to be paused or interrupted?+
The organizer can deactivate a game at any time, for example for a shared break or in case of an incident; while a game is inactive, zones can't be claimed or stolen, but chat and the map stay viewable. The game can be reactivated at any time afterward and continues right where it left off.
Navigation
Where do I create a new game?+
The fastest way is right in your browser via the Dashboard — it now also lets you create a simple, ad-supported game with your own card decks, no app required. For the full configuration including the ad-free upgrade, you still need the Android app (the "+ Create Game" button in the main menu).
Where do I join a game?+
Via the organizer's personal invite link (in the format join_game.html?gameId=…) — it opens the app automatically if installed, or otherwise takes you to join_team.html in your browser. If you don't have the link but know the game ID, start directly at join_team.html and enter it there manually.
Where do I manage my cards and decks?+
In the app's Card & Deck Manager (main menu → Library, three tabs: My Cards / My Decks / Shared By Me). For quick edits without the app, there are now dedicated web pages too: the Card Editor and the Deck Editor.
Where can I watch a live game?+
In the Web Player — it shows the map, chat, hand of cards, and score in real time, right in the browser with no install. Handy as a second screen next to the app, too.
Where do I draw or edit a map?+
In the app's map editor, or in your browser via the Map Editor — both let you draw a completely custom map for any city or region, holes included.
