Spielregeln

So funktioniert Claim Of Zones — vom ersten Kartenzug bis zum Spielende.

1. Das Konzept

Claim Of Zones ist ein ortsbasiertes Team-Strategiespiel, inspiriert vom YouTube-Format „JetLag: The Game".

Claim-Karten (56)

How to Play

How Claim Of Zones works — from the first card draw to the final score.

1. The Concept

Claim Of Zones is a location-based team strategy game, inspired by the YouTube format "JetLag: The Game." You form teams, draw challenge cards from a digital deck, and travel by public transit, bike, or on foot across your city or region to claim geographic zones. On the standard Swiss map, each zone is a Libero fare zone, but game organizers can also draw a custom map for any city or region in the world. Whoever controls the most zones once the agreed playing time runs out wins. Everything runs through the app: drawing cards, uploading proof, the zone map, and chat are all synced in real time across every player.

2. Getting Ready

Form your teams ahead of time and install the app on at least one device per team (Android; for players without an Android phone, the Web Player works as an alternative). Agree on a start and end time together — 4 to 8 hours is typical, and a weekday tends to work best since more shops are open and transit runs more frequently. It's worth taking a look at the zone map and the challenge cards in the app beforehand.

🎒 Packing list

A backpack, a valid day pass for public transit, some cash (CHF 20–50 for small challenge purchases), pens and paper, a phone with a power bank, a full water bottle and snacks, swimwear and a towel, and a lighter or matches for challenges that call for one.

On game day, all teams meet at the same starting point. Each team starts with 2 credits and draws 6 cards from their deck — then it's time to travel.

3. Cards and Credits

The standard deck has 179 cards across four categories. Every team holds 6 cards in hand; using a card automatically replaces it with a new, randomly drawn one from the deck.

Credit cards (101)

Complete the challenge to earn credits — the currency you use to travel between zones.

Claim cards (56)

Complete the challenge, then claim a zone on the map for your team. 4 of them are marked "Claim+" and let you lock the zone directly.

Lucky cards (12)

Power-ups you can use whenever you like — or discard for a fresh card.

Curse cards (7)

Must be resolved immediately, but instantly grant credits and a bonus draw.

Every challenge requires proof (a photo or video), uploaded straight from the app when you redeem the card. Some claim cards grant multiple claims at once (a "2" in the top-right corner, for example) — for each extra claim you still have to physically travel to that zone, but you can claim it instantly on arrival without a new challenge.

4. Claiming, Locking, and Stealing Zones

Claiming: Complete a claim challenge and upload the proof. Switch to the interactive map, tap the zone you want, and choose "Claim." The zone is assigned to your team instantly, and every player is notified.

Locking: You can protect a zone you already hold by completing a second claim challenge in that same zone. Some claim cards are marked "Claim+" and let you lock a zone in a single step. The shop item "Quick Lock" achieves the same effect without a second challenge. Locked zones show a lock icon on the map and cannot be stolen.

Stealing: To take over an unlocked zone held by another team, your team first needs to own two zones adjacent to it. Only then can you travel into the target zone and complete another claim challenge there — after that, the zone belongs to your team. The team that lost the zone is then protected from further theft for 60 minutes. The shop item "Quick Steal" lowers the requirement to a single adjacent zone.

Endgame sprint: During the last hour of the game, stealing a zone only ever requires one adjacent zone, "Quick Steal" has no additional effect, and steal-protection after a theft drops from 60 to 30 minutes.

5. Traveling with Credits

Crossing a zone border costs your team 1 credit, whether or not your vehicle actually stops in that zone. Traveling within the same zone is free, as is traveling up to a zone border as long as you don't cross it. Only public transit, bikes, and walking are allowed; leaving the play area is never permitted — if a curse sends you outside the map, you have to choose a new direction.

6. Submitting Proofs

Every completed challenge needs proof: up to 6 photos or one video of at most 60 seconds. Proofs are shared automatically in team and game chat so every player can view, comment on, and vote on them. For claim challenges, the proof is also permanently linked to the claimed zone and stays viewable there.

7. Shop, Curses, and Side Quests

The shop is available at any time from the navigation. It offers lucky items that give your own team an advantage, curses you can target at an opposing team (language barrier, phone ban, location sharing, and more), and side quests marked in blue — optional extra tasks outside the normal card cycle. Every purchase automatically deducts the right number of credits from your team's account.

8. Fair Play

All team members travel and complete challenges together at all times — splitting up isn't allowed unless a card explicitly asks for it. If a card asks you to find something, you can't search for it online (things you happen to spot in the real world count). Small purchases for a challenge are normal; spending a lot of money just to force a task through goes against the spirit of the game.

9. The End of the Game

Once the agreed end time is reached, no more zones can be claimed. Teams that haven't returned to the agreed starting point by then lose every zone they captured in the final hour. The team with the most zones wins; ties are broken first by the number of locked zones, then by remaining credits.
